The Story of Bowenwork

From Self-Taught Therapist to Global Healing Modality

Bowenwork is a gentle, non-invasive form of bodywork that was developed by Thomas Bowen in the 1950s. Born in Geelong, Australia, Bowen was a self-taught therapist who developed his own unique approach to bodywork based on his observations of the human body and its natural healing abilities.

Bowen's approach involved the use of precise, gentle moves on specific points on the body to stimulate the body's own healing mechanisms. These moves were typically done with the fingers or thumbs and were applied using a light pressure.

Over the years, Bowen's approach gained popularity and a devoted following, and it eventually spread beyond Australia to other parts of the world. Today, Bowenwork is practiced by trained therapists around the globe, and it is widely recognized as a safe and effective form of bodywork that can help to relieve pain, improve mobility, and promote relaxation.

While the techniques used in Bowenwork have evolved over the years, the core principles of the approach remain the same: to support the body's natural healing processes and promote overall wellness.
